CHAPTER ONE: THE UNION

ARTICLE 1: NAME

  1. The organization shall be known and called ‘THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS RUSSIA. Hereafter referred to as NUGS-Russia.

ARTICLE 2: SLOGAN & EMBLEM

The union’s slogan shall be “EDUCATION: a right not a privilege”.

ARTICLE 3: CHARACTER & ORIENTATION

  1. NUGS-Russia is a democratic, non-partisan, independent and progressive Mass Movement in Ghana students in the Russian Federation
  1. NUGS-Russia shall embrace all progressive and democratic ideals and principles for sound leadership and social progress.
  1. NUGS-Russia shall respect the rights and freedom of conscience of its membership

ARTICLE 4: AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of NUGS-Russia shall be:

1) To protect and safeguard the rights and interests of all Ghanaian students in the Russian Federation.

2) To offer a common platform;

  1. for the discussion of issues and problems affecting all students
  2. for the co-ordination of students’ activities
  3. for the expression of students’ opinions on matters of national and international concern
  4. To inculcate in students the spirit of solidarity and patriotism.

3) To promote cooperation, understanding and friendship between students of Ghana in Russia and other students in Russia.

4) To inculcate in students a high sense of discipline, active participation and a sense of revolutionary awareness of our cultural heritage and offer the means by which they can advance this heritage.

5) To advance the concept of Pan-Africanism and to foster unity among Ghanaian students and other students of African descent in Russia and the world at large.

ARTICLE 5: MEMBERSHIP

  1. Every Ghanaian student (private/government) currently enrolled in an educational institution in the Russian Federation shall be an automatic member of NUGS-Russia.
  1. Every government student upon arrival will be introduced to NUGS-Russia and registered accordingly. Further registration in the local NUGS chapter shall be done in their respective towns.
  1. Private Students must register in the local NUGS branch if available. If not available, registration in any NUGS-Russia-related networks (website, CC group on Facebook etc) shall be considered legitimate.
  1. Non-students may act as associate members but may not vote or hold office.
  2. The rights and obligations of members include the following:
  3. All NUGS-Russia members have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities

regarding union affairs

  1. All members of NUGS-Russia shall have the right to elect and to be elected to

Union positions in accordance with the eligibility requirements

  1. Students shall have a free say in all matters of interest during meetings of the

organization without fear of intimidation

  1. Each member shall benefit from the works and moral support of the union as determined by situations.
  1. The rights of members shall be respected and not violated so long as they act in

conformity with provisions of the constitution.

  1. Members shall exhibit exemplary attitudes anywhere and at all times
  1. Pay their dues regularly
  1. Actively militate and put all their forces in the service of the organization
  1. The local NUGS branch in concert with NEC/CC shall have the prerogative and/or duty to intervene in 12 assisting, at all times, members in crisis.
